Kai was born in Freiburg, Germany, in 1982. When he was six months old, his family moved to Quito, Ecuador, where they lived for seven years before returning to Germany.
After finishing secondary school, Kai followed his love and fascination for film and dramatic storytelling, and started shooting short films and music videos.
In 2002, he began studying Filmmaking Arts at Middlesex University in London. After earning his bachelor’s degree, he attended the prestigious Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Germany to study directing (focus advertisement).
Since then, Kai has received multiple nominations and awards. His final academic film, Fleurop Flowers, garnered significant recognition at festivals and award shows, with Kai frequently shortlisted for the Young Director Award in Cannes.
Kai is conceptually strong and highly versatile, with a deep focus on storytelling that emphasizes detail, timing, and humor. He is passionate about visual storytelling and his greatest love lies in films driven by offbeat comedic dialogue and impeccable timing.
He has directed for major clients such as Mercedes-Benz, Apple, MediaMarkt, Škoda, Hornbach, Gillette, O2, and EDEKA, earning multiple awards and nominations, including several from the ADC Awards.
